Peace Pond, originally part of our Nelms Ave. neighbor Norman Glassman’s Amata property, was purchased in 2009 along with the surrounding parcel of land with an $8,000 Common Good Grant from the Community Foundation’s Neighborhood Fund. The grant also included a year’s coaching from nonprofit consultant Jack Beckford. A pump mounted on floats aerates the pond by pumping water uphill; it then flows back down a homemade waterfall (long since swallowed by plant life). Peace Pond is occasionally graced by visits from a heron, who eats all its fish and then moves on. The turtle clan remains, to the delight of visiting families. ***
