Amata, a neighboring property fronting on Nelms Ave., has a long history inextricably entangled with the Land Trust’s. The late Norman Glassman, an electrical engineer, and his wife Marilyn Rosenberg moved into Lake Claire in 1976 ???? , when it was a neighborhood of fixer-uppers. They purchased a historic barn-shaped structure and a large tract of land overgrown with kudzu. Built by a stone and brick mason in 1944, the building bore the inscription “Amata” – “beloved” in Latin. After reclaiming the property from the kudzu, Norman and Marilyn pursued a vision of intentional community which greatly contributued to the diversity of the neighborhood.
